Cool facts about Anthony Hopkins
By: Jake Rajala
Anthony Hopkins is unequivocally one of the most underrated Marvel faces. Of course, Hopkins stars as Odin, the father of Thor and Loki. It’s lesser known if he carries a rich background behind the jumbo screen. Hence, I’m going to take a unique, yet much-needed angle by untwining 10 interesting facts about Anthony Hopkins.
- Thor
To reiterate the pivotal presence of Hopkins in Marvel, Hopkins stars in many Marvel pieces. He’s showcased in Thor (2011), Thor: Dark World, and Thor: Ragnarok. According to “The Things”, Hopkins was paid 10 million for his role in Thor. He earned every penny as the wise ruler of Asgard.
- Aspergers
Like myself and even my role models (such as Elon Musk and Nikola Tesla), Hopkins suffers from Aspergers syndrome. Hopkins has been open about the benefits of Aspergers syndrome in his acting. Per CDC, 1% of the world’s population suffers from Aspergers. Signs of ASD include obsessions, odd speech patterns, limited facial expressions, and often an unusual sensitivity to sensory stimuli.
- Born in UK
On December 31st of 1937 in Margam, United Kingdom, Hopkins was officially born. Bernard Fox (starred as Dr. Bombay in Bewitched) and Ronald Lewis (starred in Jigsaw) are also from Margam. There are also an infinite amount of celebrities from the UK — such as Winston Churchill, JK Rowling, Alan Turing, and even William Shakespeare.
- The Silence of the Lambs (academy award for best picture)
If asked to name the first film with Anthony Hopkins that comes to mind, it would be blasphemous to not name The Silence of the Lambs. The horror film follows Hopkins starring as Dr. Hannibal Lecter — who is a psychiatrist serving life behind bars for murder. Hannibal is being interviewed by Clarice Starling (played by Jodie Foster) for information on a different case. Hopkins won Academy Award for best actor in his work on The Silence of the Lambs. Furthermore, the film garnered a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score & 91% of Google users admired it.
- The Father
Let’s not forget Hopkins winning his second Oscar at the age of 83 for his performance in “The Father”. He is portrayed as a man with dementia & he also refuses help from his family. The emotional film from 2021 also garnered a whopping 98% RT score!
- ISFJ personality type
The mbti of Hopkins is rumored to be ISFJ, which stands for introverted, sensory, feeling, and judging. It’s the most common MBTI in the world. Other famous ISFJs include George H.W. Bush, Rosa Parks, and Ryan Reynolds.
- The Two Popes
The most underrated film with Hopkins is “The Two Popes” in my humble opinion. The film revolves around Pope Benedict (played by Hopkins) & future Pope Francis (played by Jonathan Price) building a relationship for the sake of the Catholic church. The movie obtained a potent 90% RT score & 91% of Google users admired the piece.
- Stella Arroyave
His wife is none other than Stella Arroyave. They have been married since 2003. She is 67 years old — which is 18 years younger than Hopkins. They don’t share any children, although she is the step mother to Hopkins’s only child. He was married to Petronella Baker and Jennifer Lynton before Stella.
- The Remains of the Day
It would be a shame to forget about Hopkins’s performance in “The Remains of the Day”. The 1993 film follows Hopkins serving as an English butler to Lord Darlington (played by James Fox). The old-ish film registered a potent 96% RT score!
- Howards End
I will finally point out the remaining elite movie of Hopkins, “Howards End”. Relationships between people with different values, yet increasing closeness is the plot of the complex theme. Can relationships between non-similar faces survive? The film came out a year before “The Remains of the Day”. The film notched a 94% RT score!
