Previewing the Bengals offense

Bengals offensive outlook

By: Jake Rajala

The Cincinnati Bengals have been an up and down team in the Zac Taylor era. The legendary Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis didn’t reach a Super Bowl, but he did have seven winning seasons! Meanwhile, the coach (Taylor) that is “a year older than Aaron Rodgers” has four winning seasons. Let it be known that Marvin Lewis is as bad in the playoffs as NHL goaltender Marc Andre Fleury, as Lewis hasn’t won a playoff game.

It all starts up front. If the Bengals OL in their Super Bowl run was half as good as their weapons, they would have had a serious chance of winning their “first” Lombardi trophy. The Bengals mythical offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth didn’t want any part of the Bengals OL after 11 seasons, as he fled to the Rams and won a Super Bowl there. He wanted to play with Aaron Donald, rather than block him.

It’s safe to say that Joe Burrow is a Top-5 QB and he’s on track to be the best Bengals QB of all time. The Red Rifle (also known as Andy Dalton) had five winning seasons. Burrow has four winning seasons, but he hasn’t played for 14 seasons, as Dalton has. Dalton may have cool hair, but he doesn’t look as sleek as Joe Burrow throwing a deep bomb to Ja’Marr Chase.

The Bengals WR1 (Chase) may be better than the potential Hall of Fame WR AJ Green. Chase has made four straight Pro Bowls and he’s been named first team AP in each of his past two seasons. It seemed mad to draft a WR fourth overall with Green. Well, they followed up their craze by drafting Chase fifth overall. It paid off. It’s not as bold as drafting a tight end in the top five, however.

Is Shedeur Sanders overrated?

Is Sanders overrated right now?

By: Jake Rajala

Shedeur Sanders made the Pro Bowl a season ago. He unleashed more interceptions than touchdowns last season. Jameis Winston once threw 30 interceptions in a season. At least, he threw more touchdowns (33) than ints in the same season.

Not only did Shedeur get a seat in the Pro Bowl, but the Bengals QB2 Joe Flacco made the Pro Bowl! Perhaps you have to be bottom shelf QB on an AFC North team to get a ticket to the Pro Bowl.

I get that Shedeur can sell jerseys. That’s still not an excuse to have him bring down the ship. We all remember a former Browns QB that could sell jerseys, but struggle on the field. Of course, I’m talking about “Johnny Football”.

According to PFSN, the legendary running back LeSean McCoy believes that Sanders will be backing up Deshaun Watson in 2026. McCoy said, “I got a lot of sources and connections over there, players, you know what I’m saying. They say Deshaun Watson looks good over there .. and he’s going to start.”

Sanders was ranked as the 42nd QB (out of 43) QBs. They will likely not get an Otto Graham in their future, but it is clear that Sanders isn’t the answer right now.

Watson can take care of the football and be more consistent than Sanders right now. Let’s not forget that Watson played like a Top-5 QB in a season before. Watson is still only 30 years old. He’s a couple of years younger than Jacoby Brissett, who turned his career around at 32.

Joe Burrow isn’t having fun anymore

Burrow is sad

By: Jake Rajala

As widely reported, Joe Burrow doesn’t appear to be having fun with the game of football anymore. He has a Top-3 wide receiver tandem (in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins), and he would be pushing for a playoff spot if he didn’t get hurt this season. Yet, he has Andrew Luck syndrome and could retire at 29, which happened to be the same age that Luck hung up his cleats.

Perhaps Burrow would be having fun if he could smoke cigars in the Bengals locker room (just as he did after the CFB Championship). It’s not fair that he can’t couldn’t rip a stogie before a game.

Hendrickson and Burrow can’t be happy with their defense, which gives up more points than any other team. Burrow knows how his idol, Drew Brees, felt after he had many years with the worst NFL defense.

I know Burrow would be having more fun if he wasn’t missing his second former LSU pal, Justin Jefferson. Let it be known that Jefferson isn’t exactly having a lot of fun with the potentially worst starting QB in the league in J.J. McCarthy. The swap would still be a pipe dream, given that Jefferson is the Vikings best player by a long shot. The potential Jefferson trade from the Vikings would have to be more dull than the Cowboys shipping off Micah Parsons.
