What is wrong with Bryce Young?

Reflecting on Bryce Young

By: Jake Rajala

Bryce Young’s height will always be mentioned when referring to the 5’10 QB. Winning the Heisman can’t even save Young! Yet, he can’t escape memes of his height, just as Patrick Mahomes can’t get away from haters making fun of his peculiar voice.

The Panthers defensive coordinator was axed today. It didn’t help his chances when Christian Watson literally iced the game, after coming straight from the hospital. I believe Gregg Jennings, who once played with a broken leg, would have also torched the Panthers.

Tetaoria McMillan won OROY last season. Young has shown that he can’t solely rely on McMillan. Defenses have also shown a recipe to dismantle Young, which is interior pressure.

Young is obviously short and he often has to stand on his tipy toes. It can make one flustered. For example: It’s unclear if he’s tall enough for the rides at the fair. Sure, Drew Brees would stand on his tip toes, but he also had Jimmy Graham and Darren Sproles, meshed with elite play-calling from Sean Payton. Young is still shorter than Brees, anyway.

Young can’t make a deep playoff run with “RPO”. Defenses will bend not break and make Young under pressure and force him to make mistakes. Nonetheless, it should be noted that Jake Delhmoore led the Panthers to the Super Bowl. Hence, anything is possible.

Young has slowly improved over the past couple of seasons, to be honest. There isn’t a chance that the 49ers will give back CMAC. Perhaps the Panthers need another prominent WR.
