10 interesting facts about James Gunn

Cool facts about James Gunn

By: Jake Rajala

The talented and utterly authentic James Gunn has orchestrated numerous brilliant Marvel movies over the past decade. His first baby was Guardians of the Galaxy (which unveiled a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score) – it was released in 2014. Since his first brilliant film was released, his handprints have been on Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (which ousted an 85% RT score) and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (which will be released in 2013). With that enunciated, I’m going to untwine five interesting facts about the mind behind “Groot”.

  1. He directed “The Suicide Squad (2021)”

Gunn hasn’t only made monster motion pictures in the Marvel verse, but he has also created very fascinating movies outside of the Marvel niche. For instance, he constructed the juggernaut movie, “The Suicide Squad”, which was released in 2021 (which was basically a more impressive, non-remake, or non-sequel version of “The Suicide Squad (2016)”. It would be an understatement to say the latest “The Suicide Squad” film – also known as a movie I had to watch twice in the TCL Chinese Theatre, was amazing. It’s an action (dark) comedy film and it’s extremely entertaining. It was also a heart-warming film – which could be best reflected by the Rat Catcher scene towards the back of the movie. It should also be noted that Peacemaker, also known as John Cena, was yet another brilliant character designed by the eccentric James Gunn. The film garnered a very impressive 90% Rotten Tomatoes score. The 2021 movie by the director of Guardians of the Galaxy may be seen as a tad weird to a lot of people (which shouldn’t be a surprise), but if you love Gunn’s corkiness, you should feel comfortable with the diverse characters and graphics in the 2 hour and 12-minute film.

  1. He’s the director of “Peacemaker”

The Peacemaker (played by John Cena) is such an appealing character that it was only fitting that an entire TV series was crafted in his honor. Peacemaker follows the path of Peacemaker leaving his troubled and somewhat complex past behind and joining A.R.G.U.S on Project Butterly. He and his new team must find and eliminate parasitic butterfly-like beings that have possessed bodies across the planet. Peacemaker, who has been described as “a piece of s**t” by Gunn, is on a mission to prove he has good in him. The show has garnered very positive reviews —- as Rotten Tomatoes gave the show a 94% score and 91% of Google Users liked the film.

  1. He’s engaged to Jennifer Holland

The director of “The Suicide Squad” (Gunn) and an actress in the film (Jennifer Holland) are currently engaged. Per Syfy, Holland stated, “I just told him my life story. We spent like 7 hours together and that’s it. That’s how it started.”. She has also been in American Pie Presents: The Book of Love. She may have a million fewer Twitter followers than Gunn, but they still really are a smart and intense match.

  1. He is an ENFJ personality type

Gunn has confirmed his unique personality – as he took the Myers-Brigg test and got ENFJ as a result. The ENFJ personality type stands for extroverted, intuitive, feeling, and judgment. ENFJ is the second rarest MBTI among men. Other famous ENFJs include Barack Obama, Drake, Tupac Shakur, Jennifer Lawrence, and Denzel Washington.

  1. He earned a masters degree from Columbia University

Gunn had a bit of a roller coaster journey in his college days. He was involved with the creation of political cartoons for St. Louis University and proceeded to graduate from the university. The ambitious creative had to take some time away to improve his mental health, but he eventually went to gain his masters degree from Columbia University. Other notable alumni from the university are Alexander Hamilton, Amelia Earnhart,  J.D. Salinger, and Julia Stiles.

  1. He was a co-writer for “Dawn of the Dead”

The horror movie “Dawn of the Dead” was really a hidden gem in the year 2004. It was directed by Zack Snyder with a screenplay by Gunn. The movie starred Sarah Polley, Kim Poirer, Ty Burrell, and Ving Rhames. The horror movie garnered a modest 76% Rotten Tomatoes score and 88% of Google users enjoyed the movie. Per Screen Rant, Gunn has stated that he loved the 2004 version so much that he doesn’t want to re-make it.

  1. Gunn was temporarily removed from the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 project

It should be stated that creativity can be seen as a double-edged sword. Gunn has so much passion for the world, but he still has his own flaws. He once had many old tweets dug that were filled with sexual jokes about boys. The genius at a low point sent out an apology to the world and many of his co-workers showed love and admiration for him, too. Eventually, he was given the keys back to the project by Disney and he was able to direct the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

  1. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri

Star-lord (played by Chris Pratt) once replied to a question about his father’s whereabouts in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, “He ain’t from Missouri. That’s all I know.” Star-Lord’s father may not be from Missouri, but Gunn certainly was born in Missouri. He’s from St. Louis, which is the second-biggest city in Missouri. It rests along the Missippi river and it’s also home to the Gateway Arch. Chuck Berry, Andy Cohen, and Maya Angelou were also born in the city.

  1. His brother is an actor

It’s obvious that entertainment is in the “Gunn” blood. James isn’t the only successful individual in the movie business in his family His brother, Sean, has appeared in many of James’s movies (such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, The Suicide Squad, and Guardians of the Galaxy 3. He was portrayed as “The Weasel” in the Suicide Squad. He was also cast in the latest Thor movie, Thor: Love and Thunder.

  1.  His first big screenplay was Scooby Doo

He wasn’t the director of Scooby Doo (2002), but he was the screenwriter for the adventurous film. The film only mustered out a 32% Rotten Tomatoes score, but 81% of Google Users admired the film. It was also clear that Gunn showed potential with his first screenplay. He would also be the screen-writer for Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
