The case of Jared Goff

The story of Jared Goff

By: Jake Rajala

Jared Goff was a first overall pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 2016. Many wondered if he would be like former first overall pick at QB Sam Bradford. Bradford had one winning season and it was 2-0. Others pondered if he would be like the elite QB Kurt Warner, who wasn’t even drafted! Warner didn’t wait in a green room. Rather, he was busy burning the mid-night oil at the local grocery store.

Jared’s nickname is Mr. Perfect. He started out 0-7, so that nickname seemed laughable.

Nonetheless, he started to heat up after his rookie season. He unleashed four straight winning seasons. Out of the blue, he was traded to the Detroit Lions. He went from Malibu to 8 mile.

Some may be confused why they traded Goff. Perhaps Sean McVay was insecure about a young QB and wanted a QB that was close to his age, as Stafford is 38.

Goff was the opposite style of Stafford. He has only had two seasons above 12 interceptions. Meanwhile, Stafford has six seasons of at least 12 interceptions. Nonetheless, Stafford has cleaned up his play a bit in a Rams uniform. Stafford did throw 41 touchdowns to 17 interceptions in his Super Bowl-winning season, so we got to see the full version of Stafford.

Goff has thrown at least 30 touchdowns in each of his past three seasons. He also went 15-2 in 2024. If his defense can do it’s part, then we’re looking at a QB in Goff that can match Stafford’s Super Bowl count.
