What happened to Mark Sanchez?

Reflecting on Mark Sanchez

By: Jake Rajala

The former fifth overall pick from the 2009 draft, Mark Sanchez has been on a roller coaster as of late. Just when we thought he was bizarre for eating a hot dog on the sideline, he runs into his own teammate’s butt.

Sanchez wasn’t exactly special on the field. He has only recorded two winning seasons. He has also failed to make a Pro Bowl. Sanchez could be compared to a “washed up Brett Favre”. In Sanchez’s rookie season, he unleashed 20 interceptions. Favre unleashed 22 interceptions in his lone season as a Jet.

Sanchez has only thrown more than 20 touchdowns on one occasion. Meanwhile, Jacoby Brissett came out of nowhere and unleashed 23 passing touchdowns last season!

Sanchez hasn’t exactly been a role model to young football fans, especially in the Big Apple. He faces charges for attacking a 69 year old truck driver. He faces a felony battery and multiple misdemeanors. He faces up to six years in prison.

Sanchez isn’t the first QB to face jail time. Former elite quarterback, Michael Vick, went to jail for 21 months. Of course, Paul Crewe (In The Longest Yard) also went to jail and was allowed to form a team “against” the guards.

Sanchez was somewhat following his coach’s footsteps. Rex Ryan was in a bar scuffle in 2017. Obviously, Sanchez took it to the extreme.

In the end, I hope Sanchez becomes a better person and that he is remembered for his finest work on the field. We all remember him beating the Cowboys as a Philadelphia Eagle on Thanksgiving.
