Josh McDaniels reflection
By: Jake Rajala
The long time New England Patriots offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, has six Super Bowl rings with Tom Brady. Given his success as the offensive coordinator he earned a head coaching gig with the Denver Broncos. Yet, he was fired after two seasons. The former Browns head coach, Hue Jackson, went 1-15 and 0-16, yet he was given another season as the HC. Perhaps the Browns tried (and failed) to tank for a QB.
It’s hard to blame Josh McDaniels for struggling with the Raiders. Even Jon Gruden went 22-31 in Sin City. Similar to the Cowboys, the Raiders aren’t a bully like they were in the 20th century. The best Raider in the 21st century might be the kicker Sebastian Janikowski.
It seemed that TB12 carried McDaniels in New England. Well, he is sitting at 11-3 with Drake Maye and the Pats. Yes, you read that correctly. He also doesn’t have Bill Belichick anymore. The biggest fear to McDaniel may not be head coaching gig, but rather Josh Allen. The Bills are 3-2 against the Bills in their past five games.
McDaniel is arguably the best offensive coordinator in NFL history. This doesn’t mean he will make the Hall of Fame. Buddy Ryan, who orchestrated the 1985 Bears defense, doesn’t even have a place in Canton. McDaniel is only 49, which isn’t that old in HC years. Yes, he’s nearly the same age as his former QB Tom Brady. Perhaps he can reel off more Super Bowl wins without Brady to prove he’s a genius, offensive caller, regardless of the QB
